Eknath Shinde Resigns: The BJP-led Mahayuti coalition won a landslide victory in the Maharashtra elections,bagging 235 seats. However, the coalition has failed to arrive at a consensus on who should be the next chief minister.

After the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance clinched landslide victory in Maharashtra Assembly elections, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has submitted his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan today. Shinde will be the caretaker CM till the new leader for the post is sworn in. The term of the current government ends today and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar accompanied Shinde during the resignation. “After the great victory of Mahayuti, our government will be formed once again in the state. As a Maha Yuti, we contested the election together and are still together today”, said Shinde in a post on X.
Meanwhile, all eyes are keen on who will secure the CM’s post and BJP MLAs are rooting for Fadnavis. While sources in the state BJP claimed the party leadership in Delhi had cleared the name of Fadnavis as CM, a source in the Shiv Sena said, “There has been no consultation with us on making Fadnavis the CM and our party has not agreed on any name for CM yet.”
The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister is likely to be held on December 1. Along with Chief Minister and Deputy CMs, 20 MLAs will take oath as Cabinet Ministers, sources said. As many as 10 BJP MLAs will be given cabinet berths while six Shinde Sena MLAs and four NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) MLAs will also assume ministerial roles.
Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde resigned as Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Tuesday amid suspense over Mahayuti’s choice of the next contender for the top job. Shinde tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. His deputies, Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis, were also present.
However, Shinde will continue to serve as the caretaker Chief Minister until a new government is formed.
